Brief history the Bubble Room®

My younger brother Jordan and I had both been dreaming of building an underwater room for quite some time. Ironically neither of us knew that the other had been thinking of the same thing. One day Jordan called me up and pitched the idea, I was ecstatic and explained that I had been wanting to do the same thing! We each had mediocre plans in our heads but once we got together and began to brainstorm it quickly bloomed into a very realistic and achievable dream.

We knew our first attempt was going to be more of a learning experience than a realistic "underwater room". It consisted of a net tied to large rocks with climbing webbing, we put a piece of plastic under the net and let a large bubble into it with a SCUBA tank. As proof of concept it was great but it was far from realistic. The biggest problem was that it was unstable and all of the force was focused on the four corners of the net. We were able to swim around it and "feel" it and see where the stresses were and how to improve it.

Over the course of the next several weeks we did lots of math and research, drawings and scale models. We are now on "version 3" which is by far the best and most user friendly design so far.
